Lux Cantorum is accepting auditions for Sopranos, Altos, Tenors, and Basses to join us for next season. We are looking for choral singers interested in musical growth and dynamic performance opportunities, and would love to welcome new choir members!

  • Online audition times for our Fall 2024 prep are available for all voice parts on Monday, May 13th from 7:00-9:00 pm or Monday, August 26th from 7:00- 9:00pm. All auditions will be held via Zoom.

  • Rehearsals will begin on Monday, September 9th from 7:30- 9:30pm with a pre-rehearsal retreat Saturday, September 7th.

  • Performance dates are December 6th, 8th, 14th, & 20th.

Q.  When does Lux Cantorum perform?

A.  Typically, we present two different programs per season (in December and May), performing each program over the course of two weekends.

Q.  Why should I join?

A.  Singing with Lux Cantorum provides great opportunities to work with talented and dedicated individuals, to be exposed to beautiful and challenging pieces, to strengthen your skills as a musician, and to be part of our supportive choral community. Q.  How do I join?

A.  We are looking for committed singers—especially tenors—who exhibit good vocal quality and musicianship and can approach a wide variety of sacred music with integrity and finesse. Singers will be asked to complete an audition form—you can find information about preparing for your audition here.

Q.  When and where does LCC rehearse?

A.  From September to May, we typically rehearse on Mondays at St. John's Lutheran Church, 4939 W Montrose Ave, Chicago, from 7:30-9:30 pm.

Q.  Are there dues to be a member?

A.  Yes, dues for membership are $150 for anyone singing during the performance year (September–May), $85 for those singing only a single concert series. The dues go directly towards things like paying our director and accompanist, buying new music, and hiring instrumentalists for concerts.

Q.  Is Lux Cantorum a church choir?

A.  No, we are a volunteer, auditioned member-driven chorus celebrating the sacred choral tradition—we are not affiliated with any church or faith tradition. Our members represent diverse spiritual and religious backgrounds and hail from all over Chicagoland. We recently changed our name to better reflect our group.
